Why Encryption is important! You're setting there in front of your computer, what if some one could look through all the files on your computer? What would they find? What would the files on your computer say about you? Just by someone looking through the files on your computer they can know a lot about you. Are computers, telephones and the Internet a dangerous thing? Its time people waked up to them self's, you think the e-mail your sending is not being checked by some program or person before the person your sending it to gets it. Think again! Now I know what most of you are thinking. Well what have I to hide? Not world domination plans I hope. But most of you will have Names, Address, Phone Nos., E-mail address, Internet Passwords, and for any one that shops online you credit card information might be still left on your computer. Getting worried now? You should be. There are loads of FREE encryption programs on the Internet that allow you to encrypt files of any type. If you wanted you could make your own to do this. Even win XP on a NTFS partition will allow you to encrypt folders and files. In win 9x there was no sign of being able to encrypted files with out using a 3rd party program. I have a friend in the US that told me every nigh before he goes to bed he encrypts everything on a USB HDD and locks it a way. Maybe this is going over the top, well it all depends on what you got on your computer, where you live and the laws in your country. I have heard lots of stories where careless users leave important information on his/her computer for any one with a bit of knowledge can get access to. Another friend (you know who you are) once told me of how he left his computer in for a service/upgrade. A month later he got his credit card bill, which was sky-high. Some one had being using his credit number to buy software, domain names, and accounts on Porn sites. I asked him if he used his credit card number on line. He told me he did once when he got it, but that was it. This happened a year ago. To this day he believes that some one working in the computer store where he left his computer had got his credit card number of his computer and used it. But he can’t prove anything. My friend had learned a hard lesson but a valuable one. I now hope anyone reading this will be more cautious with information on his or her computer and now see why encrypting is so important.Thats it for this small tut. Peace hEYWIRE! |
